AI vs Human

AI is an incredible tool.

 

You can type in “give me a 45-minute full body strength workout with dumbbells” and it’ll spit one out in seconds. Add more detail like your training split, injury history, or what equipment you have and it gets even better.

 

If you’re short on time and just want to get moving, this is awesome. It’s like having a personal assistant that never sleeps.

 

But let’s be honest.

 

If you use it often enough, you’ll notice something.

 

The workouts start to look... familiar.

 

I’ve played with it for a while now. Asked for workouts for different goals, tried to build programs for strength, hypertrophy, and conditioning. Even gave it detailed info about reps, sets, equipment, and timeframes.

 

At first, it looks solid. The sets and reps make sense. The structure is fine. But once you ask it to build a full program that progresses over time?

 

It struggles.

 

It does what robots do, it adds reps. Adds sets. Repeats the same movements. And just kind of keeps going.

 

Technically, that’s progression. But real training isn’t just stacking volume forever. At some point, you hit a wall. You need to shift variables, rotate movement patterns, taper fatigue, and factor in real-life stressors.

 

That’s where the robot breaks.

 

Could you feed it hyper-detailed input every day? Track your RPE, reps, sets, fatigue, sleep, stress, and preferences? Sure. You’d probably get a decent plan in return.

 

But if you’re going to do all that, you might as well just hire a coach.

AI is great at creating a starting point. It’s fast, efficient, and good enough to keep most people from walking into the gym blind.

 

But if you have a specific goal? One that requires real progression, feedback, and adjustment?

 

You need a human.

 

Because a good coach doesn’t just add volume. A good coach sees when your sleep is wrecked, your schedule is slammed, or your form is off. They adjust, troubleshoot, and build long-term progress.

 

The robot isn’t there yet.

 

Use it when you need a quick workout. When you’re traveling. When you want something different to spark a session. Just don’t expect it to think critically about your training the way a real coach will.

 

For now, humans still win that fight.

 

But who knows how long that’ll last.
